Former Celtic stalwart Charlie Mulgrew was impressed by Hoops centre-back Auston Trusty tonight.

The American defender played the full 90 minutes as the Bhoys marauded to a dominant 6-0 victory over St. Johnstone in Perth.

Trusty was just that at the heart of the Celts’ backline, never shying away from a tackle and remaining accurate in his passing.

Although he didn’t play on his natural side at centre-back, he remained impressive and contributed towards yet another Celtic clean sheet.

If Cameron Carter-Vickers isn’t back in time to face Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday evening, Trusty will undoubtedly get the nod as the Hoops head to Germany.

Based on his performance this evening, supporters wouldn’t have any qualms with the 26-year-old getting the nod at Signal Iduna Park, and neither would Mulgrew.

The ex-Celt was on punditry duty with Premier Sports tonight, and Trusty caught his eye.

He’ll [Trusty] be delighted to get a clean sheet today,” said Mulgrew (premiersports.com).

He gets a clean sheet and a great performance.

“He’ll take loads [of confidence] from that.”

After his display against Falkirk last Sunday, there were some question marks surrounding Trusty.

It was ultimately his full debut, though, and in a first-choice Celtic team tonight, he showed he is more than capable of doing a job for his new side.

Seeing how he and his teammates cope with the step up in level Borussia Dortmund will provide on Tuesday should be intriguing.

  1. Despite the outstanding performance, with the quality of the goals on show?
Seeing the Trusty/Scales CB partnership working so well, and comfortable in doing so also?
Was another very pleasing sight to be seeing?
Usually would want CCV available for every game, but now maybe we don’t need to risk CCV in dortmund, if CCV isn’t fully fit?
Also delighted for McCowan and Valle for there contributions, and the set up play for the Idah goal was just sublime exhibition football at its very best imo?
