CHRIS SUTTON has heaped praise on Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers for NOT blaming the referee for Celtic’s 1-1 draw at Fir Park.

The former Celtic striker applauded the Irishman for not making it about the referee BUT in Sutton’s opinion, it was the referee who cost Celtic all three points.

Celtic were already 1-0 up when Benkovic fired in from a tight angle to score quite an impressive goal, however, Kevin Clancy ruled it a foul from Benkovic and disallowed the goal.

Replays show there is absolutely nothing wrong with the goal and if there’s any fouling going on, it’s Benkovic who is being fouled.

Celtic didn’t take their chances after that and were delivered a sucker punch on the 88th minute to drop two points in the league.

Rodgers refused to blame the referee but Sutton is doing it for him in his Record Sport Column

“It was refreshing to hear Brendan Rodgers refusing to blame Kevin Clancy for Celtic dropping two points in the 1-1 draw with Motherwell at Fir Park.

“The bottom line is it was the referee’s fault with Filip Benkovic’s disallowed goal just the latest in a string of recent blunders by officials.

“But Brendan effectively said he can’t trust his squad having made seven changes from the Betfred Cup final starting 11, which certainly seemed excessive.”

Brendan knows he needs reinforcements in, he knew that in the summer, the club were just not able to get his targets in.

January is a massive month for Rodgers as Celtic look to kick on.
