CHRIS SUTTON has had a go at The Celtic fans who continue to have a go at James Forrest in a Celtic jersey.

The former Celtic striker believes the player gets a rough ride from a section of the support if he does bang in a goal every game.

Sutton has saw the player be sacrificed out of his position to help the team move forward and has been involved in key moments throughout the campaign already. Yet, there’s a vocal bunch who continue to want James dropped.

The BT pundit has a theory on that.

Writing in his Record Sport column Sutton said:

“It does seem that the local boys get the stick first. It’s the same at every club in the UK. I saw it myself with Aiden McGeady and Shaun Maloney.

“Others would be cut more slack than the two homegrown boys. We say that it’s wonderful for clubs to produce their own, yet there’s a section who get on their case first. Forrest is the type who has been there for so long that people won’t appreciate him until he’s gone.

“He’s not even in his 30s and he’s got 18 winners’ medals. He’s amongst the most decorated players in the club’s history. He’s come through his development years and turned into a classy senior professional.”

Do some Celtic fans give the local talent more criticism when things aren’t going our way? There’s certainly a case to be made for it.

Don’t get me wrong, no player is immune from criticism after a bad loss but there does seem to be a continent that will have a bigger go at Forrest, McGregor and to a lesser extent Mikey.

James’s record speaks for itself and this season; 15 goals and 18 assists makes the bhoys down on him sound absolutely ridiculous.

The player scored against St Johnstone midweek and he’s been a constant in the team throughout the treble treble run. The lad deserves more respect.
