Former Celtic striker and BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton has responded to a claim regarding whether he believes current Hoops boss Ange Postecoglou would be of ‘Manchester City level’, after recent reports suggested that the Etihad side were impressed with the 56-year old.

The former Socceroos boss has done an incredible job since his arrival from Yokohama F Marinos in the summer, rebuilding this Celtic side and taking them back to the top of the Scottish Premiership, six points clear of rivals Rangers.

Of course, with success in Scotland comes attention from south of the border, but with Ange so early into his tenure as boss, there haven’t been too many suggestions as of yet, thankfully.

During the week, though, it was suggested that he was impressing those at Manchester City, with Ange having previous links to the City group in his former role in Japan with Yokohama.

This led to a discussion on the Football Daily podcast, with Chris Sutton responding and defending Postecoglou around the claims of whether he would be of the level down south after his early success in Glasgow.

“Are you serious? Do I think he could do it at that level?

“We’re talking about a guy with an unbelievable track record, but he’s sneered at because his track record is in Australia and Japan.

“I’m not saying you’re sneering at him. I’m saying people do sneer at him, and we’re questioning now whether he’s up for taking a job in the Premier League.

“What more does he have to do?”

As Celtic fans, those involved in the EPL can sneer at Postecoglou all the like. As long as it means the 56-year old remains at Parkhead with fans loving the job that Ange is currently doing at the club.

Of course, it is still early days for Postecoglou at Celtic, and fans will hopefully be looking forward to a good number of seasons under his management.

If success were to continue coming the Hoops way, you would imagine the links down south would become stronger. But, who knows, maybe they will be naive to make their move, meaning that Postecoglou remains at Parkhead for longer.
