We’re a week into the January transfer window, and the rumours continue to heat up. Celtic badly need quality in attack, with a shock return for Kyogo being reported.

Chris Sutton has given his verdict, as well as naming three other players he wouldn’t mind seeing at the club.

It was revealed today that the Hoops have been closely monitoring Kyogo’s situation at Birmingham City, with a loan deal until the end of the season being discussed. The Japan international has found the net just once for the English Championship club in 25 appearances this season, sparking discussions surrounding a return to Glasgow.

Chris Sutton has weighed in on his potential return, as well as highlighting three forward options he believes would improve the current squad.

Speaking on The Warm-Up, he said:

“I’d take Kyogo back. I know things haven’t gone well for him at Birmingham City.

“Maybe it’s worth a punt. The issue clubs have in January, they may just have to think loans. That’s the difficulty. But Celtic need better in than what they’ve got.”

He continued:

“I just wonder whether Celtic should go for Callum Wilson.

“If Celtic had a centre forward, they’d have been out of sight at the weekend [against Rangers].”

Wilson is currently at West Ham United, having scored four goals in 17 Premier League appearances this season. The 33-year-old was left out of their most recent squad in their defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Sutton has also identified two players currently playing in the Scottish Premiership who he believes would bolster the Hoops’ attack.

“I think if you said [Tawanda] Maswanhise as a central striker, he’s better than anything Celtic have got.

‘With Kieron Bowie, it’s the same.

“Celtic have got to forget about planning for next season. In the background they have to think about that as well, but they have to forget about that.”

Maswanhise, who is in great form at high-flying Motherwell, is second-top in the league’s scoring charts with nine goals. Hibs and Scotland striker Bowie isn’t far behind with seven.

Both have been shining lights at their respective clubs, with Maswanhise netting at AFCON for Zimbabwe.

Supporters have been crying out for a quality striker this season. Time is of the essence as the Hoops embark on a tough run of fixtures during the title race.
