Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton didn’t hold back on social media after Kris Boyd criticised Nicolas Kuhn’s celebration during Celtic’s dramatic 2-1 win over Ross County. Boyd appeared unhappy that the German winger wasn’t sent off after jumping into the crowd following his late winner, with Sutton taking to Twitter to dismiss the former Rangers striker’s complaint.

Sutton, who has become a prominent voice in Scottish football, praised Celtic’s overall performance while poking fun at Boyd’s reaction. “Celtic huffed and puffed and finally got there. The subs changed the game. McCowan excellent, Kyogo’s movement fantastic, Forrest the old stager looked sharp. Kuhn wonderful finish. Kris Boyd didn’t like him celebrating the winner… dear me,” Sutton wrote.

Boyd had questioned whether Kuhn should have been shown a second yellow card for his celebration, given that players are often booked for going into the crowd. However, Sutton was having none of it, choosing instead to focus on the positives from Celtic’s performance.

Kuhn’s goal was the decisive moment in a match where the Hoops had struggled to break down a resolute Ross County defence. After equalising through a fortunate deflection off Alistair Johnston, Celtic found their winner through a brilliant counter-attack, with Kuhn racing down the right wing and finishing in style. His celebration with the away support might have drawn Boyd’s ire, but it was a moment of joy for the travelling Celtic fans.

Sutton’s comments reflect a frustration among Celtic supporters with Boyd’s often critical takes on their club for obvious tribal reasons, but the former Hoops forward is always quick to defend his side. The late goal keeps Celtic’s unbeaten run intact, and Sutton was keen to highlight the impact of the substitutes as the key to their victory.

Ultimately, while Boyd may have been focused on the technicalities of the celebration, Sutton and the Celtic faithful were more concerned with the result – and the three points that keep them at the top of the table.
