CHRIS SUTTON was full of praise after his former side maintained their six-point lead at the top of the table.

A year ago, he reflected on the scoreline when Celtic was schooled 4-1 by their rivals. However, things have changed since then, and Celtic are a new-look side. The goalscorer from that day, Odsonne Edouard, has moved on and has been replaced by a Japanese sensation and the top-scorer from the Dutch league.

This season, there has been a 31 point swing in the league, Celtic coming back from 25 points behind to 6 points clear at the top.

Chris makes the great point the whole Celtic team was dismantled while the Ibrox side that won inside an empty stadium was still intact.

Sutton believes that the best is yet to come from Postecoglou’s side, which are set to compete in the Champions League group stages next season.

Writing in the Daily Record, Sutton explained;

“This has been an incredible journey under Postecoglou. Twelve months ago, Rangers strolled past their ragged rivals. It was 4-1 at Ibrox and a complete spanking. Celtic looked years behind. A 25 point winning margin was just proof there was a gulf between the teams.

“It would have been hard for any manager to get from that stage to this, but when you consider what Postecoglou had to come through, it makes it all the more remarkable. Rangers managed to keep their squad intact while Celtic had to build an entirely new one.

“Celtic have been exceptional for long spells over this campaign, and they deserve to be top of the league with one hand on the trophy. The exciting thing for Celtic fans is this is just the start of Postecoglou’s journey, and I think there are still improvements to come in the summer.”

The draw on Sunday all but confirms Celtic will win the league; Celtic will need to lose two of their three remaining games and draw the other to lose the league title. This isn’t likely to happen. Celtic are effectively three points away from being crowned champions.
