Former Celtic striker and current BT Sport pundit, Chris Sutton has hit out at certain sections of the Celtic Support after recent protests and banners appearing around the stadium.

Writing in his weekly column for the Daily Record, Sutton said he couldn’t believe some of the stuff he saw outside Celtic Park, it got to the stage where he had to google it to make sure this was true whilst also talking about the great reputation of the Hoops support and how that is being affected right now.

“I don’t have a problem with making those feelings known. But I can’t for the life of me get my head around some of the ways a section of the support have gone about it.

”In what possible way can a demonstration before a vital league match be a positive move in any way shape or form?

“How on earth does a banner saying, ‘Shoot the Board’ do anything apart from absolutely tarnish the hard won reputation of the Celtic support in the eyes of the football world.

“I was fortunate to be part of a Celtic side that had tremendous backing all over the world. We had memorable European runs where the fans got rave reviews as well as the team.

“Celtic supporters were renowned for being among the best in the world.

“But now? How do this section of the support think their behaviour in the last few weeks is being viewed around the world?

“I’ll tell them. It’s embarrassing.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read the Shoot the Board stuff the other day. I had to Google it to make sure it wasn’t a fake picture.

“When you add in the violent protests after Ross County, the bus chasing in the wake of St Johnstone, and now a protest even before a match kicks off, it just makes these fans look moronic.”

In the last few weeks, Celtic fans have been rightly frustrated with how poorly things have gone this season.

So you can see why some felt the need to make their voices heard when it comes to the thoughts of the support which is made even harder to do, with no one being allowed in grounds at the minute.

However, there is of course a line, and some may have crossed it with their actions when it comes to violent protests and whatnot.

Hopefully, with the Celtic Trust having a planned progress and also being in discussion with the club it allows this to be done more peacefully and also in a way fans voices are heard

  1. Sutton should keep his comment to what’s happening pitch side.
Sure some of the demos or demonstrators were out of order, but 90% of the banners were legit and succinct demonstrating the supports frustrations, even though we all might not agree with then 100%.

To single out the one obvious amateur effort, most likely made up by a couple of headbangers with an old bed sheet and a roll of whatever sticky tape they could find in their mammies kitchen drawer absolutely stinks to high heaven of the agenda the the shit rag he writes for follow follows.
