Former Celtic star Chris Sutton has expressed his approval for Reo Hatate’s selection in the starting line-up as Celtic face Feyenoord in the opening match of their Champions League campaign.

Brendan Rodgers’ team selection has generally been well-received by fans. Notably, injuries in the defensive line have paved the way for Lagerbielke and Scales to be included. Philips, despite making the journey, is absent from the squad after going over his ankle on Saturday.

A significant change sees Palma earn his first starting position for Celtic, taking the place of Yang on the wing.

Yet, it’s the decision to start Reo Hatate that has grabbed headlines. After a promising return from injury last weekend, Hatate’s second-half performance seemed to elevate the team’s play. While it wasn’t his best performance in the Hoops, the evident quality difference between Hatate and Turnbull was palpable, with the team’s play appearing more cohesive and dynamic with him on the pitch.

Chris Sutton shared his enthusiasm for Hatate’s inclusion on X, posting:

As Celtic prepare to take on Feyenoord, many will be watching Hatate closely, expecting him to be central to any success the Scottish side may achieve tonight.
