CHRIS SUTTON has made the outlandish claim, had Celtic signed Jermain Defoe for ridiculous money this January there would be a statue up at Celtic Park for him.

Aye, that’s right Chris, just after we get around to sticking a Henrik Larsson one up.

The former Celtic striker has been waxing lyrical about Celtic’s rivals signing the Premier League striker because of his name value – let’s get that straight.

“I know some Celtic fans have said that he’s getting on a bit.” Sutton told SunSport.

“But if Defoe had signed for Celtic, I think they would be putting a statue up to him outside.

“He has been there, done it and can finish. You know what you are going to get. He looks after himself well and he is a talented striker.”

Nothing Jermain has personally done the last two years has warranted this sort of reaction and nor does it justify paying big money wages. To continually bang the drum that Celtic should have signed him is quite laughable.

This site personally shot down the notion of Celtic trying to sign the player before he was linked with a move to Scotland.

It’s all about name value, and while the striker may do well up here; the over the top reaction to his signing has been bordering on the ridiculous.
