Former Celtic striker and BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton has claimed that losing the league title on home soil to rival Rangers may not be the worst thing in the world.

Writing in his weekly column for the Daily Record, Sutton believes that if this was to happen it may actually wake the Hoops board to the severity of the issue and force big changes once again.

“Celtic handing over the title on their own soil to Rangers would not be a bad thing.

“It might actually bring home the seriousness of the situation facing the club right now.

“It’s wrong for people to be talking about Rangers winning it at Celtic Park. It was actually won months ago.

“I’m going to get accused of being a broken down record and going on about the same stuff all of the time.

“But, seriously, when will someone in power at Parkhead give the supporters a heads-up on what is going on.

“How bad does it have to get? Rangers lifting the Premiership trophy in your own front garden? That serious?”

We are now coming to the business end of the season where places in the league are officially secured and it’s a strange feeling not being too going into that.

In a strange way, Sutton may be right. Such a poor result and outcome may make the likes of Dermot Desmond realise how bad this is, in a similar way he did back in 2016 when seeing Rangers celebrating their Scottish Cup semi-final over us which led to the appointment of Brendan Rodgers.

At the same time though there would be no worse feeling, despite not being on the grounds than losing the league at Celtic Park. It really would top off an extremely poor season for us.

If the board don’t realise how bad it is at this stage, they really shouldn’t be in the roles that they are in.

It’s also time for the players to step up and be counted for the final run until the end of the season in order to not embarrass themselves or the support.

  1. Sutton is right.

Surrendering the title in early-mid March in the year we were going for 10 is already humiliating so a defeat at home makes little difference.
Would sum up this disgrace of a season and the board caused it by appointing Lennon in the shower and failing to get rid of him last October

  2. Celtic lay down and gifted the foe six points of their lead (but Sutty didn’t say that!!!!!!) That was terrible and that and that alone stamped our card. As well as dropping polnts home and away to fellow strugglers. The time to wake up has long passed.
Time to re-new. And they had better make their minds up. Season cards are needed to be renewed, time too for a good ole look at the finances and do something quick.
Don’t wanna see Sevco do two in a row. Do you???
