Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has reacted to the Hoops appointment of Ange Postecoglou as the new first-team manager.

The Englishman took to Twitter to send his best wishes to the new permanent manager and stated that he hopes the board backs Postecoglou in the way that is required.

Ange has come in at a difficult stage in terms of where the club is at. Off the back of a poor season, we now enter arguably one of the biggest rebuilds, on and off the field that the club has ever seen.

One positive thing to note is that the former Australian national team boss has experience going into clubs at this sort of stage in a rebuilding process.

In his last four jobs as manager, he has overseen a rebuild of some sort. Now, whether they can equate to the size that Celtic has to undertake this summer unknown.

However, what it does show is he has this experience from being at teams across the world.

Sutton is absolutely spot on in what he says. Postecoglou must be backed in the way that is needed this season. Otherwise, we could find ourselves fall even further behind.

  1. For it to be suggested that we face arguably the biggest rebuild of our history is utterly preposterous and outrageous. Celtic last season were a proper management structure away from winning the league because we still had the best players available in the league. They simply downed tools because of the internal issues and this caused them to drop points they’d never have otherwise dropped. RIFC were a consistent Celtic side away from utter capitulation as they overwhelmingly proved the season before with roughly the same players. This window Celtic will lose a few players but most of us were happy to see the back of them anyway so with a few key additions to an already good nucleus and with some top managerial accuen Celtic will go from strength to strength. I expect Celtic to win the league title next season and one of the domestic cup competitions and also a decent run in one of the European competitions.
