BT Sport pundit and ex Celtic striker Chris Sutton has revealed that he and current striker Leigh Griffiths have been in contact after the Englishman criticised the 30-year old.

Speaking on BT Sport’s Scottish Football Extra, Sutton revealed that he and Griffiths had a ‘private conversation’ but still went on the attack, continuing his criticism of the striker after coming back in the summer unprepared and not being up to speed by now.

“I’m not going to divulge, it’s a private conversation. It’s a crime when you have that much talent and you can’t be bothered. And that’s what’s happened.

“My advice to Leigh would be to do his talking on the pitch. I think Leigh Griffiths is a brilliant finisher and a great asset to Celtic. He’d be a great asset to any team if he’s fit. It’s not my issue that Leigh Griffiths couldn’t bother himself to get fit. It’s not my issue that he’s not starting games and can’t finish games.

“He’s better off getting himself in a position where he is fit enough to play for 90 minutes. It’s as simple as that with Leigh. I wasn’t criticising his ability, I was criticising his application and his attitude and it’s clear for everybody to see. I’m only pointing out what we can all see. It’s totally unacceptable.”

When it comes to Leigh Griffiths, he got the criticism he deserved in the summer after coming back unprepared and unfit, so wasn’t up to speed with his team-mates.

But the way Sutton has gone after him in the aftermath of the Sparta game seems to be a bit harsh.

There are a lot of other subject matters that should surely be discussed at this time, with Griffiths actually coming on and scoring the hoops only goal of the game.

It is good to hear that both have reached out to each other to clear things up and it really does go to show what Griff thinks of his comments the other night.
