CHRIS SUTTON has sent a message to the Green Brigade to cut out the pyro and get back to supporting the team.

The former Celtic striker believes the fans group is a net positive for the club but they must start adhering to the parameters which have been set.

Sutton does make mention of the political stuff the group brings to Celtic Park but admits that doesn’t bother him as much as the blatant use of pyro.

Celtic have had several fines this season already, although the last charge related to Celtic fans standing up fascism which is a shocker.

The Green Brigade were locked out of the game on Thursday night against Rennes and their absence did have an impact on the atmosphere – there’s no doubt about it.

Chris Sutton wants to see the bhoys back in Celtic Park and bringing the noise but not at the expense of safety.

Using his RecordSport column he sent his message:

‘But let’s also hope the Green Brigade got the message as well after being forced to sit it out.

‘Their absence undoubtedly had an impact on the atmosphere. They bring the noise to Celtic Park and most of the time are a positive presence.

‘But they simply have to cut out the nonsense. If they want to make political protests then march on George Square.

‘I don’t even care too much about that stuff – it’s the pyrotechnics that get me. They know UEFA don’t want them and, more importantly, they are fully aware the fireworks are dangerous.

‘How would they feel if it’s their child who ends up losing an eye or getting their face badly burned? That’s what we are talking about here.

‘I can’t get my head around why any fan would go out and behave in a certain way they know is going to damage their club, whether it’s with fines or with sections of a stadium ordered to be shut or closed entirely by UEFA.’

  1. Wouldn’t waste your time there Chris-they dont pay the slightest attention-Time to accept the GB dont care about Celtic only themselves and move on-ban the GB for good-they werent missed on Thursday

  2. On Thursday night we witnessed a great away support. There were no flares no pyros no stupid banners no vile chants. Perhaps the Green Brigade should have a good hard look at themselves and recognise that you don’t need all that crap to be real Celtic fans. Rennes supporters were a real credit to their team and it was great to see two sets of passionate fans interacting with one and other and having a great time. I sometimes wonder about the agenda about the ” brains ” ( and l use that term loosely ) behind the G B. They are all too aware their actions will hurt the club and its reputation but still do it anyway and the ” sheep ” that follow them blindly follow their example. Some of them really need to grow up or start supporting another team. The GB do bring atmosphere and their charity work is to be commended but enough is enough. Get behind the team and play by the rules or you will be consigned to the history books. No fan group is bigger than the club. H.H.

  3. I agree entirely with your comments Iva Redcoat.
The atmosphere at the game was the best I have witnessed in a long, long time. Both sets of fans were wonderful and interacted fully in friendship. The singing and support was jointly shared. The Celtic fans sang throughout the match, putting to bed the idea that we need the GB for atmosphere, which is absolute nonsense. At the Rennes game, songs were heard throughout the game from both sets of fans and there were smiling faces everywhere and no IRA songs. It was fantastic and positive. It is an utter fallacy the the GB is needed for atmosphere. I for one did not miss them one bit and plenty round about me feel the same. We can do without their hubris and objectionable feelings of superiority. Celtic should also be careful as, in my opinion, they have encouraged it by pandering to them in the past. I hope they discontinue this and the GB need to learn that they are no better than anyone else.

  4. Just to prove yet again that GB are brainless idiots they return today and continue with a barrage of IRA songs-only surprise is that there werent any pyros!
Why not sing in praise of our great team on the park or our great history?
    Celtic doesn’t need the GB.
    They are an embarrassment.
Get rid of them FOR GOOD
