CHRIS SUTTON has taken a huge dig at Peter Lawwell this afternoon as the Englishman watches John McGinn help propel Aston Villa back into the Premier League.

As it stands, Aston Villa are heading back to the big time and John McGinn is a big reason why. The player signed for the Birmingham club back at the end of the summer window when Villa swooped for the player when Celtic were playing hard ball with Hibs.

It’s well documented Brendan Rodgers had John as one of his top targets and Peter Lawwell was tasked with signing him from Hibernian. The Celtic chief executive failed to match Hibs asking fee and by the time they did it was too late.

Peter Lawwell’s job was to bring in a Celtic fan from Hibernian who had just one year left on his contract and managed to botch it.

Chris Sutton reminding folk of the missed opportunity which did damage between Rodgers and the board.

  1. Yes John McGinn, is a very good player as he showed more than once this season, with Villa, but was it not the case that the money he was offered was so much more than Celtic could?. And he went for the money!! Was there not a case very recently, where we lost a manager, also a Celtic supporter, for the same reasons?. We can only pay what our budget allows us!! Yes Celtic supporters my bum!!!!

  2. Small time thinking results in a diminished club. Board are desperate to maintain the ‘Old firm’ and have absolutely no ambition bar keeping a wee but ahead of them. They have abandoned Celtic as a European club. Investment is very poor and any hope of change evaporated with the appointment of Lennon. A few signings from the SPL will be the pathetic summer transfers. Anyone who expects any different is deluded.

  3. If we had agreed earlier the fee then McGinn would be a Celtic player now. He got fed up waiting on Lawwel getting his fat ass and doing his job!
