CHRIS SUTTON believes that Celtic should make a move for Benjamin Siegrist, whose Dundee United contract is expiring in the summer.
After joining the Tangerines in 2018 on a free transfer, the player stood out in his position. Reliable between the sticks, he rarely is at fault for a goal – except on Monday night when he spilt the ball, and Giakoumakis was there to punish him.
The 30-year-old has been heavily linked to Ibrox; however, interest seems to have died down.
Speaking live on Premier Sports, Sutton expressed his feelings towards to keeper, urging Celtic to make a move.
“If I’m Celtic I go out and buy him at the end of the season as back-up.
“I really like him. He’s had a number of seasons at Dundee United now. I think he is a brilliant goalkeeper.”
This season, Siegrist has kept eight clean sheets in the league; this is a decent record when the strength of the defence playing in front of him is taken into account.
I am an admirer of the keeper, but I don’t think signing the keeper will benefit the club. He’s not getting younger and will most likely only be brought in to be the back-up to Joe Hart. Signing the keeper could also limit the chances young goalie Tobi Oluwayemi could have. Staring for Tommy McIntyre’s b side, it’s only a matter of time before he gets a first-team chance.
