Christopher Jullien got his first outing for Celtic today in a bit of a drab match against Rennes at Celtic Park.
The defender took his place in the Celtic starting XI for Celtic and in his first match for the club there was nothing too much we could really take from Jullien’s or anybody’s performance.
The Frenchman looked a bit rusty and ponderous at times but was hard in the tackle and certainly held his own against a physical Rennes attack. Jullien’s mistake in the second half nearly let Rennes in for a chance but the defender recovered well and the danger was dealt with.
This is to be expected with the player still trying to get up to speed and playing in a new team is never easy. Neil Lennon said if Jullien came through the game today he would consider playing him against Sarajevo. It remains to be seen if Neil thinks the player is fit enough to go in from the start in a competitive game.
The defender got about 60 minutes under his belt. One thing we are excited for is to see Ajer and the Frenchman create a formidable partnership. It has the makings of a sturdy defence.
