Not much has been made of this deal from a Celtic perspective other than a passing comment by Neil Lennon but it appears if Celtic had any desire to sign Jose Cifuentes there time is up.

According to a top Scottish journalist – Porto want the standout midfielder on a plane ASAP with his reps to wrap up a deal for the defensive midfielder.

Cifuentes has caught the eye of a few clubs since the Under 20 World Cup this summer and Celtic looked to be at the front of the queue at one point but the player looks Portugal bound.

Celtic have been on the lookout for a midfielder, the club thought they had David Turnbull very early in the window but a medical flagged up an issue which killed the deal.

As the transfer window winds down, Celtic are not stronger than when they went into the window. Something that Lawwell preaches but very rarely delivers.

  1. Jose Cifuentes is a modern day slave who is owned by an agency. He is NOT a free man.
Your articles are never based on reason Michael. This is and always was a non story.
Please take a rest until you have something worthwhile to say.

  2. There are a number of players who are owned by agencies and have no say in where they are transferred to. These deals are often very complicated and never in the selling club’s favour, the buying club’s favour, or more importantly, the player’s favour. This lad is probably a good footballer who is at the mercy of his agency and any buying club’s will act very carefully with this. Celtic were probably not ever interested.
