BRENDAN RODGERS has taken the high road with Moussa Dembele after sanctioning his transfer to Lyon on the final day of the window.

The Irishman begrudgingly sold one of his best players after an attitude shift from Moussa made his Celtic stay impossible.

Social media antics along with training ground misbehaviour to push through a move seen Rodgers tell him to leave Lennoxtown and gave the club the go ahead to do a deal with the French side.

Speaking after another derby victory the Celtic manager wants to put the whole thing to bed and admits he knows Moussa is not a bad person even after his antics and lying .

“The whole episode was disappointing. I had a really close relationship with Moussa. He was desperate for the move. There was a line over stepped from a behaviour perspective.

“I needed to speak to Moussa and a few other senior staff members. There was a lot of stuff which was said which was not so nice and ironically not true. Moussa got his move. Deep down I know he’s a good boy, he did a great job for us and I wish him the best.”

Moussa sent a message to the Celtic fans on midnight Saturday just 12 hours before the derby game explaining his decision and hoping the club the best for the future.

  1. Dembele age 22 money grabber. He had a good 1st season, last season was’nt good enough. The tweets were very childish, we will see how his injuries fair out at Lyon. No player is bigger than any club. Hail hail the CELTIC and we will be singing the Brendan Rodgers song.
