Celtic’s midweek Champions League opponents, Club Brugge, were in action this afternoon against Sint-Truidense V.V.

It’s safe to say the current Belgian champions got the perfect warm-up for Celtic Park midweek with a 7-0 win at home.

If a 1-0 win over Aston Villa last time out in the Champions League wasn’t enough to signal the challenge the Hoops will face against Brugge, who currently sit second in the Belgian Pro League behind Genk, who are three points clear and have a game in hand.

Nicky Hayen’s side look to be a real challenging prospect for Celtic, who themselves are in action against Hearts at Tynecastle tonight.

Greek winger Christos Tzolis appears to be the real dangerman for the Belgian side, with Tzolis bagging four goals this afternoon, including a penalty.

With two wins from four in the Champions League, Hayen has managed to impress with victories against Villa and Sturm Graz, both home and away.

But the nature of the win over Unai Emery’s side has caused controversy, as Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez nudged the ball out of the six-yard area, and defender Tyrone Mings, thinking the goal kick had not been taken, picked up the ball.

This led to referee Tobias Stieler awarding a penalty, with captain Hans Vanaken scoring from the spot.

With Celtic in action this evening, it will be one game at a time for the Hoops, but given the nature of Brugge’s victory, it highlights that the Belgian champions go into Wednesday’s clash off the back of an impressive result.
