MARTIN O’NEILL is on the brink of returning to club management this Monday afternoon as the BBC reports the Celtic Legend is about to be named the new manager of Nottingham Forest.
After being sacked as the Republic of Ireland boss the Irishman is set to come back into club football with a club he has gained legendary status with as a player.
O’Neill was part of Forest’s ‘golden era’ where they were a force to be reckoned with in Europe; winning two European cups with O’Neill playing his part in the 1980 final.
O’Neill is also a Celtic legend for his part in Celtic’s revival in 00s, where the Irishman transformed a squad who had lost the league by 18 points into a treble winning team the year after.
He also took Celtic to their first European final since 1970 back in 2003 when 80,000 Celtic fans travelled to Seville only to fall short to Jose Mourinho’s Porto side; the same Porto side who would lift the Champions League trophy the following year.
It’s always a gamble to go back to a club where you have achieved so much but O’Neill will be relishing the opportunity to change the club’s fortunes.
