FORMER Celtic star Gary Caldwell has been sacked by Partick Thistle after less than a year at the helm. The ex-Scottish international took charge at Fir hill last October but has never really been able to get the Jags firing.

The turmoil at the club with potential investment and takeovers muddied the water further and now the manager has been given his books the Thistle website confirmed.

Caldwell was due to bring his Partick Thistle team to Celtic Park next Wednesday in the League Cup quarter-finals but now it looks like either a caretaker boss will be in place or a new permanent man.

Gary has had spells as manager at Wigan, Chesterfield and now Thistle with none of these moves working out in the end.

It will be interesting to see what comes next for the former Celtic player. If he gets a coaching job at Motherwell we’re probably bound to sign him as a coach within the week.
