It is set to be a colossal weekend for Celtic Women. In the SWPL so far this season, the Ghirls have maintained a 100% record and they currently sit top of the table.
Fran Alonso’s team have secured some notable wins so far, and they will be aiming for yet another on Sunday. Then, arch-rivals Rangers will visit the Excelsior Stadium at midday.
Currently, the Celts sit two points ahead of the Gers in first. Both sides have a goal difference of 46 and go into this one neck and neck.
A win for Celtic would see them open up a five-point gap between both Rangers and Glasgow City and themselves at the top of the table. Alonso and his players have been under pressure this campaign, but such a lead would alleviate some of that stress.
It will be tough to get a result, but it is more than possible. Last season, the sides played each other on numerous occasions, with the Hoops winning the most recent derby by two goals to nil in the Scottish Cup final.
They will be aiming to recapture the spirit of that day on Sunday and get one over on their Glasgow rivals.
