Celtic’s hunt for a new permanent manager is still unfolding, and Wilfried Nancy remains one of the most discussed names in the race.

The Columbus Crew boss has built a strong reputation in MLS and continues to be pushed into the conversation by those who admire his style and track record. Naturally, that has led to questions about how the Crew view the situation.

Columbus General Manager Issa Tall spoke to the media earlier today and was asked directly about Nancy’s future amid the noise from Scotland. His response offered a clear snapshot of where things stand on their side of the Atlantic. While he didn’t dismiss the possibility of change outright, he made it known that Nancy is fully embedded in preparations for next season.

He said: (RecordSport), “Wilfried is under contract. We’re in deep discussions about expanding the squad for next year, developing preseason plans, all that good stuff.

“What’s the future going to bring? … You never know.

“You have to be prepared for anything, but the way things are going, he’s locked in.”

Tall made it pretty clear Nancy is fully tied into Columbus right now. He’s already planning next season, talking recruitment and getting preseason mapped out. That doesn’t rule anything out, but it shows why pulling him away wouldn’t be simple.

It also underlines the timing problem for Celtic. MLS runs on a different rhythm, and Columbus are already building towards 2026. Taking a manager out mid-cycle would be a major interruption for them and would force Celtic to move quickly and decisively.

The message is straightforward. Nancy isn’t looking for a way out, and the Crew expect him to stay unless something significant shifts. He’s still an interesting option, just one wrapped in plenty of complications.

Celtic will keep looking at all angles, but Tall’s comments make one thing clear. If the club want Nancy, they’ll need to push at exactly the right moment, because Columbus look ready to hold their ground.
