Celtic fans have been sent into a state of worry after Cameron Carter-Vickers was noticeably absent from Friday’s open training session, where cameras captured the Bhoys in their final preparations before the Glasgow Derby.
With it being transfer deadline day, speculation is running wild, and many supporters are concerned there could be something in the works regarding a potential move away for the American defender.
While there’s been no official suggestion that Carter-Vickers is set to leave the club, his absence has raised concerns about his fitness ahead of Sunday’s clash against Rangers at Celtic Park. If the key centre-back is unfit, Celtic could face the daunting task of lining up with Stephen Welsh and Liam Scales as their central defensive pairing—a scenario that might unsettle many fans given the magnitude of the fixture.
There’s still a glimmer of hope that reinforcements could arrive before the deadline. A move for Auston Trusty from Sheffield United is set to be completed on Friday. Should the club secure his signature in time, he might be thrust into action on Sunday, although throwing a new signing straight into such a high-pressure match is far from ideal.
As it stands, Celtic supporters will have to wait until Brendan Rodgers’ press conference later today for more clarity on Carter-Vickers’ situation. The early afternoon kickoff on Sunday looms large, and all eyes will be on who lines up at the back for the Hoops.
With the stakes as high as they are, any news regarding the defender’s availability is sure to have a massive impact.
When you consider that the 20man SPFL squad in place last weekend, with the 3 added this week?
It still leaves ourselves 2 short in filling our homegrown quota requirements?
So if CCV is unavailable this weekend, then the obvious replacement is Welsh?
Personally would prefer rocki to be starting if such an occurance is in the offering for ourselves, but that choice is looking unlikely by the looks of things at present?
Hopefully CCV is just a precaution, yet it remains concerning if injuries to CCV is going to remain a factor within him also, and one we still aren’t best equipped with having to deal with either, should the situation arises for ourselves imo?
