Adam Montgomery has officially signed a season-long loan deal with Livingston, with the Celtic defender set to return to the Scottish Premiership under David Martindale.
The 23-year-old left-sided player heads to West Lothian after a spell with Queen’s Park last term and is no stranger to the loan circuit, having previously turned out for Aberdeen, St Johnstone, Motherwell and Fleetwood Town.
Montgomery had been attracting attention from several clubs both in Scotland and England, but it was newly-promoted Livi who secured his signature. Martindale’s side won promotion back to the top flight through the play-offs, beating Partick Thistle and Ross County over two legs, while Falkirk came up as Championship winners.

With two years still left on his Parkhead contract, this move represents another key development stage for Montgomery, who was involved in Celtic’s pre-season preparations. He started in the friendly against Queen’s Park and made the bench for matches against Cork, Sporting Lisbon, and Newcastle.
Many Celtic fans will recall his key role under Ange Postecoglou during the Australian’s early days at the club. Montgomery played 16 times during the 2021/22 season before going on loan to Aberdeen, and his most memorable contribution came when he delivered a composed low cross for Jota to score Celtic’s first away win under Postecoglou.
While his long-term future at Celtic remains uncertain, a full season of top-flight football under Martindale could offer the consistent game time Montgomery needs to take the next step in his career.
