This may come as a surprise to many but Emilio Izaguirre has confirmed Celtic have offered him a new contract to stay beyond this season.

Izzy was brought back at the start of this campaign to play backup to Kieran Tierney and he’s filled in on quite a few occasions. However, it’s clear to see the defender is not the player he once was and it may be time to move on again in the summer.

Neil Lennon and Celtic have given the defender the chance to stay but Emilio isn’t sure about his future as of this moment.

Speaking to SunSport the defender said: “Celtic have offered me another one-year deal on my contract.

“I don’t know what I am going to do yet. I am discussing it with my family.

“Neil Lennon has spoken to me and he wants me to remain at Celtic. But I want to be closer to Honduras when I play with the national team.

“I hope something comes up in the MLS for me. That’s the wish of me and my wife.

“So my future is difficult to predict. My agent is dealing with it at the moment and when I return to Honduras in the summer, I will decide.

“It’s difficult because my children have grown up here in Scotland. My son doesn’t need a translator – he speaks to us in a Scottish accent!”

Izzy is very proud of representing his country and wants to be able to continue to do so. Celtic fans have fond memories of Izzy but not many people will make the case for him staying beyond his current deal for footballing reasons.

Celtic have yet to confirm if they’ve offered Mikael Lustig a new deal but if they’ve offered Izzy one, surely Mikael has a deal on the table.

  1. Send him out on loan to Santos Laguna. Or give him a Testimonial then loan him out. Emilio has earned his move. Use him sparingly for six months and buy him a ticket to Sud Americas..
