We knew it last week but yesterday afternoon it was confirmed by both clubs that Celtic target Tommy Smith had indeed made a permanent move from Huddersfield to Stoke City on a £4m deal according to the Examiner.

The right back had been heavily tipped to join Celtic this summer in a bid to sort out their right back position problem. However, the player has opted to stay down south leaving Neil Lennon and Celtic looking at more targets.

The club have been looking for a full time right back for some time now. Brendan Rodgers and Lee Congerton couldn’t solve the problem position and now it’s up to Neil Lennon and Nicky Hammond to find a solution. It is proving difficult and Celtic look to be heading into the next Euro qualifier without a first team right back.

Anthony Ralston is the club’s only player in that position and Neil Lennon opted not to play the youngster in the away leg against Sarajevo and instead played Kristoffer Ajer out of position.

Hopefully, the club can bring in a quality signing before too long.
