This is a new one from the Celtic board who have moved to solve their need for a director of football/chief scout by hiring someone for the summer the club has announced.

Nick Hammond, formerly of Reading and West Brom will come in on July 1st and work the summer window with a view to a permanent place at Celtic should he help the club recruit well in the summer.

Hammond had huge admirers at Reading but the consensus among West Brom fans seems to paint a negative perception of Hammond and his time at the Hawthorns.

It’s a strange move by the Celtic board who have announced this when they could have merely used Hammond as a consultant over the summer and hired him after that if they thought he was worth the investment.

It speaks to the club wanting to show the fans they are actively doing something. Having an announcement we’ve signed a head scout for the summer wouldn’t have been newsworthy before now.
