BRENDAN RODGERS has revealed Moussa Dembele’s injury is a bit more serious than first anticipated.

Last week the Irishman said the striker would be back in 2-3 weeks, he is now saying the striker may not be back until the start of September in a worst case scenario.

This means Moussa would miss ALL of Celtic’s Champions League qualifiers and the start of the domestic season. It would almost surely rule the striker out of the first Glasgow Derby at the start of September if the prognosis ends on the harsher end of the scale.

Speaking ahead of Celtic’s curtain-raiser in the SPFL – Rodgers admitted it was a huge blow.

“The medical guys are telling me it is probably going to be another two to three weeks, a bit longer than we had anticipated. It’s a blow, but that is the way it is.”

Celtic will play Livingston on Saturday followed by Athens on Wednesday – they will have to hope and rely that Leigh Griffiths can come in and help Edouard with the games comoning in thick and fast.
