There has been a surreal amount of nonsense surrounding Celtic and Brendan Rodgers over the past few days. When you peel back all the cyber hype, Celtic lost a game of football. They haven’t started the season off to the standard Celtic fans have had the pleasure of watching the past two seasons.

It’s September. Nobody wins or loses trophies in September. There is a multitude of time for the Rodgers to get the Bhoys firing on all cylinders again. It can take one game, one goal or one tackle to get that fire going. Remember the Anthony Stokes hat-rick against Kilmarnock in a 3-3 draw? Look what happened after that result. Neil Lennon’s team went on a winning streak that turned over a 10+ point deficit.

Celtic won’t be short of games for that bit of magic to happen, it could start tonight at McDiarmuid Park. Celtic face Saint Johnstone in the league cup. The Celtic boss hasn’t hid away from making changes in recent weeks and he still gives the impression he is still in an experimenting phase. Tonight Rodgers is tinkering again but it should please most Tims to see two upfront. It remains to be seeing if it will be an actual 4-4-2 or Edouard will play off Griffiths.

Scott Bain in goal is the big surprise. Ntcham returns to the middle of the park while Ajer returns alongside the much improved Boyata.
