Former Celtic target and Scottish international Scott McKenna isn’t ruling out a move away from Pittodrie in January.

McKenna was a target for Celtic under Brendan Rodgers and Lee Congerton’s watch but at the time – Aberdeen priced the player out of a move to Celtic Park forcing the club to look elsewhere.

Speaking last year, Brendan Rodgers confirmed the interest: “He’s a young player that I like.” The Irishman told Sunsport. “However the clubs have spoken and it was made clear Scott won’t be for sale or available in this window. So that would end that.”

On international duty with Scotland, the centre-back was asked about his future and it’s clear he wants a move in January if one materialises but knows he has to keep his head down and wait.

“I just need to keep my head down and see what happens come January.” McKenna told RecordSport. “It’s a big couple of months. As soon as every window closes, the next six months is always big.
“It’s a big six months and the closer you get to the window, all you hear is people saying ‘you need to play well the next five or six games, your future could depend on it’.”

Aberdeen have put a high price on the player’s head but might have to come down with interest in McKenna not as high as it once was.

It’s very unlikely Celtic would be interested in bringing the player now. The bhoys have a Christopher Jullien and Kristoffer Ajer at centre-back although options from the bench are pretty scarce right now with Elhamed and Jozo Simunovic both out injured.
