There have been a number of contrasting reports released about the future of Cho Gue-sung.

In the race to sign the 24-year-old striker appear to be Celtic, Minnesota United and Bundesliga side Mainz.

There have been bids made by all three clubs but at present it looks as though the race to sign the forward is between Celtic and Minnesota United.

Gue-sung has previously spoken about a desire to play in European football but some outlets believe that the offer that he wants just isn’t on the table just now.

His international teammate Lee Jae-sung plays for Mainz which is why many think that he would prefer a move to Germany but it looks as though they are out of the running.

Many reckoned that he may hold off until the summer months to assess his options then but that has been dismissed by his current boss at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, Kim Sang-shik who believes that the striker will leave the club during this window off the back of his strong performances at the World Cup.

“Sadly, I don’t think it will be too long before Cho leaves us. As a manager, I want my best players for the new season and I need them to help us challenge for the league,” said Sang-shink as quoted by the Daily Record.

“Cho is receiving a lot of attention for his good performance in the World Cup and it is true that another club has actually made an official offer to sign him.

“We are considering it carefully because it depends on the player’s hopes for the future and his career path. Allowing a good player to leave is a bit difficult.

“I don’t want to let them go, I will be very sad. When he scored those two goals at the World Cup I was delighted for him, but also worried because I knew exactly what would happen.

“I was well aware it wouldn’t be long until we received bids. And there is certainly a possibility that he will leave in the winter transfer market right away.”

It is hoped by Hoops fans that he will eventually be paraded wearing the green and white jersey but no deal at present seems imminent.

If you think back to last January, the Scottish champions were in pursuit of Riley McGree and the deal didn’t happen but in came Matt O’Riley instead.

Celtic will have other targets if this deal doesn’t go through but there is still plenty of time for it to happen.
