With the December fixture crush slowly being ticked through by Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who has so far enjoyed a mixed return to the Celtic Stadium, despite us quite comfortably still topping the Scottish Premiership table, it is the time of the year again to turn attentions slightly towards potential January transfer window deals.
The rumour mill is starting to hit a higher gear and we have already been linked with a number of players, particularly a striker given we are likely to lose the services of Japanese duo Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda, along with South Korean international Oh Hyeon-gyu for a period in the New Year given the upcoming Asian Cup which runs for a month over January and February. The favoured rumours on that front are Aberdeen hot shot Bojan Miovski and Heart of Midlothian attacker Lawrence Shankland and for those who like a flutter and have a gg bet uk login they may want to pay attention to future speculation and see what potential odds are doing as December ticks by.
A midfielder is also reportedly top of our potential target lists, and here we have a possible interesting twist. In more recent years Celtic’s transfer policy has pivoted a little bit more, and we have tended to bolster the squad with top talent impressing abroad or players looking to revitalise their careers (with their talent being obvious to all), and we moved away from effectively ‘stealing’ the top talents of direct rivals and you have to think back to the likes of Motherwell’s David Turnbull, and potentially Benjamin Siegrist who was obviously signed as a free agent after impressing during a four year spell with Dundee United.
There are certainly those fans who would also like to maybe see a little bit more on an Academy front, particularly possibly young talents from England who are already looking more at the Serie A and Bundesliga market as a route through to greater game time – Celtic could certainly offer that.
Irrespective though, it brings us to the speculation that suggests we may be interested in a move for Motherwell’s Lennon Miller who had been very impressive for the Fir Park outfit during the 2023/24 season until he unfortunately suffered an injury.
If Celtic do have any real interest in the 17 year old Scottish Under 19 international, it could well be an interesting chase for his services as his value has notionally increased since he was ruled out of contention, as Motherwell have not won a single game this season when he has not been on the pitch, so naturally the tentative interest that was already being shown in him will have only been slightly boosted with that stat given his burgeoning potential.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, 43 year old former one time Celtic and 69 capped international striker, Kenny Miller, gave his thoughts on the young talent, and he felt that it could be the perfect ‘project’ signing for the club, and with the right development (given many would say he has already proven he can more than cope at this level) and he could immediately be a viable option, there could be a future legend in our midst.
“The one that kind of stands out for me at the moment, but he’s still very, very young with few games under his belt, is the lad Lennon Miller at Motherwell.”
Whilst they share a surname, Kenny does feel that Lennon would be more of a long term plan than some fans would think given his impact so far.
“I still think if he was to be signed, it would be more of one of those projects because he’s not been in the first-team long enough to go and show what he can do. He’s still very young as well. Celtic over the years have definitely just handpicked the best players in the league but they seem to have moved away from that in the last ten years or so.”
On a project front, Miller’s versatility in being capable of playing in the now traditional No 10 role, the No 8, and also being able of more than capably filling in with a more defensive minded midfield position, with a bit of additional faith in his future, he could well be a signing that looks expensive at the start, but proves to be an absolute bargain in the years that lie ahead, in what should be an incredibly long career for him.
