CELTIC have signed Christoper Jullien in what is a big statement by the club, but do they have one more trick up their sleeve when it comes to defenders coming in this summer?

In an ideal world, Celtic would want another centre back in as well as a right back by the time the transfer window closes. With that in mind, there has still been no definitive resolution to the Filip Benkovic situation.

The Croatian made a big impression on the club and Celtic support and the prospect of landing Filip for another season would certainly go down well with the Parkhead faithful.

Leicester returned to pre-season training today, however, Filip was not one of them as he took part in international games during the offseason. This means the defender will report back to the club on Monday next week where is future is likely to be thrashed out with Brendan Rodgers.

So how likely is a move back to Celtic?

What Rodgers said back in May:

“Filip’s situation is one I’ll certainly look at. But there’s no doubt that if I want him to go out on loan again, I’d want him to go to Celtic.” he told SunSport.

What Benkovic said:

“I’ve spoken to the sports director at Leicester and he’s told me everyone at the club will soon sit down and decide what is best for me.

“I have spoken to Neil Lennon. He told me that he would like me to stay at Celtic for another season.”

When will we find out if the deal is possible?

It will be at that point where we will see where the cards fall with relation to this deal. Celtic have spent a fairly large outlay on Jullien and the prospect of bringing in Filip on loan for another season is a mouth watering prospect.

We just need to beware of Rodgers using a loan deal as a way to try and take any of our stars.

  1. Agree retaining McGregor is a must. Also, the capture of another centre back does raise the option of utilising Ajer in the Broony role, thus taking pressure of the captain if he needs rested. Something nobody seems to discuss – but why not? It was Ajers natural position for a few seasons?

  2. {IF} We could entice Benkovic back to the Hoops this for me would be a fantastic return as he just loves playing for The Hoops at Paradise & Has an an affection with our supporters who in return have the same affection for him, Would love to see Benkovic as our very own, Would be a great piece of spending “But” !!!
