This afternoon, it was announced that Manchester United and Scotland midfielder Scott McTominay would be missing out for Steve Clarke’s side ahead of a crucial qualifier against Moldova.

With that injury news, it seems almost certain that one Celtic midfielder, Callum McGregor, is almost nailed on to start as part of a midfield three tomorrow night.

Clarke has gone with the trio of Callum McGregor, Billy Gilmour and John McGinn as the three players continue to strike up a good partnership in recent fixtures.

However, could tomorrow’s game against Moldova provide an opportunity for David Turnbull to at least play his part, with an outside shout at a starting place?

As well as the McTominay injury, the Scotland squad has to contend with several suspensions, including Lyndon Dykes and former Celt Ryan Christie.

Although it might seem unlikely at this stage, given Turnbull’s improving form, this could provide a chance at starting in the midfield if Clarke potentially chooses to deploy Aston Villa man – John McGinn in a higher position closer to the striker.

Like many of Ange Postecoglou’s squad, Turnbull started the season off a little inconsistent, especially compared to his form last season.

But we have started to see improvements in his game, with one of his best performances in a Celtic strip arguably coming in the away fixture against Ferencvaros last week.

If there isn’t a place for the 22-year old in the starting 11, it seems likely that we could see him off the bench, which could be critical if Scotland finds themselves in a position, hunting for a winning goal to secure a World Cup play-off place.
