CELTIC have some huge decisions to make in January.

We need a goalkeeper but we also need to shore up our defence. Whatever we have right now, it isn’t working. We can’t win games if we’re shipping two or three goals per game.

The window opens in just over week, you hope Celtic have identified targets and are ready to move.

One big talking point is Shane Duffy. An expensive loan deal from the Premier League which isn’t working out as planned.

While we love the big man’s passion, for whatever reason, he’s struggling to find the consistent form which will settle many peoples worries.

Shane played in the cup final and is great when things are going our way but when we’re under the cosh, his confidence or his ability can let him down.

Speaking on The Huddle Podcast, Frank McAvennie thinks Celtic should cut their losses in January, sending the player back to Brighton and look to bring in a fresh defender.

“I would send him back.” McAvennie concluded.

Simon Donnelly agreed: “I think he has struggled. In the last couple of games, he scored a fantastic header and you are thinking ‘right kick on’.

“But when the tide turns at the weekend, these mistakes surface again.

“The one with Jullien, I couldn’t believe what I was watching at the time. The Hearts lad almost goes in and scores and that could have potentially been the winner.

“Yeah I would maybe cut my losses and look to strengthen there again.”

I know Simon wouldn’t say something like this lightly. The former Celtic midfielder knows what it means for Shane to pull on the Celtic jersey and isn’t prone to attention seeking outbursts like some other pundits in our midst.
