Daizen Maeda has rounded off a remarkable campaign by being named the William Hill Premiership Player of the Year. The Japanese forward adds this latest honour to his growing collection, having already been voted Celtic’s Player of the Year and the PFA Scotland Player of the Year.

The 27-year-old has played a central role in Celtic’s domestic dominance this season, helping the Hoops lift both the League Cup and the Premiership title. With the Scottish Cup final on the horizon, Maeda is now one game away from a domestic Treble.

Despite being rested midweek against Aberdeen, he was fit enough to make the bench and is in contention to start tomorrow against St Mirren.

Maeda has been in prolific form throughout the campaign, scoring 33 goals across all competitions, including 16 in the Premiership.

Maeda isn’t just known for scoring goals. His running, chasing, and pressing defenders have been just as important for Celtic this season. Brendan Rodgers often praises him for starting the press and helping the team win the ball high up the pitch.

Whether playing through the middle or out wide, Maeda gives everything. He rarely gets a rest, showing how fit and reliable he is.

Maeda’s sensational form for Celtic has also kept him in the Japan squad. With the World Cup ahead next year, he’s likely to stay involved.

At Celtic, he’s one of the first names on the team sheet, trusted by Brendan Rodgers in every big game. As the Hoops prepares for next season and a return to European football, Maeda’s pace, goals, and non-stop running will continue to be vital.

There are still questions around his future, though. His current contract runs until 2027, but he’s expected to sit down with the club after the Scottish Cup final to talk about a possible new deal. With his growing importance to the team, both sides will be keen to find the right agreement.

Maeda and his team-mates are now preparing for the Scottish Cup final against Aberdeen in eight days. Victory would complete a domestic treble, further cementing this Celtic side’s place in Hoops history — and Maeda’s in particular as one of the key architects of this success.
