Since Ange Postecoglou moved from Japan over to Scotland to become the new Celtic manager, many have been anticipating whether he will use his contacts and knowledge of the Asian market to add to his Hoops squad.

Of course, he has already used both to significant effect with the signing of Kyogo Furuhashi, who has been an instant hit in Glasgow, quickly becoming a fans favourite at Parkhead.

Ahead of the winter window in January, reports have suggested that Ange could be set to make his second move by bringing him a familiar face at Yokohama F Marinos over to Scotland as Daizen Maeda was linked with a move late last week.

Speaking out for the first time since the interest became public, the Japanese striker expressed how his focus remains with the J League side and also stated it was good to hear about his qualities as a player being discussed.

“I know about the reports, but my job is just to concentrate on playing and hopefully scoring goals for Yokohama,”  he said as quoted by Sun Sport.

“I am trying not to think too much about the speculation.

“I always think I can score goals in any match, and that’s all I am thinking about at the moment. I am trying to get into the Japan team for the World Cup qualifiers too. Of course, if I keep scoring goals, then good things will happen.

“It’s nice to be told about my speed. I wasn’t aware of any records until the fans here pointed it out to me.

“The speed thing comes from when I was a kid. Actually, I can’t remember losing a race. I think I inherited my speed from my father. I wanted to be a sprinter at one stage.

“When I was a kid in Osaka, I ran around barefoot and climbed mountains without wearing shoes. I wonder if that is was the origins of my speed.”

From hearing the reports about Maeda, he seems like the exact sort of player that would thrive by making a move to Scotland and playing under Ange again, given the success he had the first time around.

These are precisely the deals we should be trying to get in place by using Ange’s knowledge of the league to pick up some bargain deals whilst also adding more quality to the side.
