Dane Murray Celtic Future Update

Dane Murray will remain at Celtic this season despite interest from clubs in Scotland, the English Championship and across Europe.

Dundee had made an enquiry about taking the 23-year-old on loan, but Celtic rejected the approach.

CeltsAreHere understands Murray’s future is clear. He is staying at Parkhead for the 2026/27 campaign and is not expected to leave before the transfer window closes.

The interest in the defender is not limited to Dundee.

Clubs in the English Championship and elsewhere in Europe have also looked at Murray, but Celtic have no plans to sanction a move.

Martin O’Neill is happy with his current centre-back options and Murray is viewed as part of the first-team squad.

He was named on the bench for Monday night’s 1-0 win over Dundee and remains close to the starting side.

Murray made 16 appearances for Celtic last season and has continued to build his experience after a difficult spell with injuries earlier in his career.

His long-term contract, signed last year, also reflects Celtic’s belief in his development.

Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales, and Auston Trusty remain ahead of him in the current pecking order, but Murray is expected to stay and compete for minutes rather than leave on loan.

That decision gives O’Neill another option during a season which could include a heavy domestic and European schedule.

Celtic are not currently looking to sign another centre-back and do not want to weaken the depth already available in that area.

The position could only change if there was an unexpected development before the deadline, but the plan at present is firm.

Murray will remain at Celtic.

The level of interest shows his progress has been noticed, but there is no move on the cards.

For Dundee and the other clubs monitoring him, Celtic’s answer is the same. Murray is staying at Parkhead and will fight for his place in O’Neill’s squad this season.
