Celtic midfielder David Turnbull has insisted that the side’s belief will remain ahead of Tuesday’s crunch Champions League qualifier against FC Midtjylland.

The Hoops preparation for this game was far from ideal, losing out 6-2 against English Premier League opposition West Ham.

As quoted by the Daily Record, the 22-year old has insisted this fixture will not affect their confidence as we head into the all-important second leg next week.

“That was a tough game against great opposition who showed their class. We just had to stick at it. West Ham are up there with as good a team as we’ve played – they showed that down south in the Premier League last season.

“They finished high up the table, they’ve quality players, and it was good for us to test ourselves against that level of player.

“But I don’t think the defeat will affect our confidence too much ahead of Wednesday night.

“We got a good result in the first game here, and we’re looking to build on that now.

“We’re looking to show the kind of form we showed in midweek in the return game.

“And we’re confident of going through. We feel we should have won the first game against them.

“We just need to create again, take our chances and be a bit more clinical.”

When it comes to pre-season fixtures, you probably shouldn’t look too much into scorelines. Just a few weeks ago, this same West Ham side was drawing 2-2 with fellow Scottish Premiership side Dundee.

However, the performance wouldn’t have filled many Hoops fans with confidence, considering yesterday starting 11 is likely to be the same for Tuesday night.

Before this tie, we knew we had a tough task on our hands. But with last week’s first leg performance, some fans were likely given more belief that we can make it through this round.

That tough task still remains, but you will be certain that Postecoglou won’t accept the same performance level that he saw yesterday, particularly in defensive areas.
