David Turnbull’s season was put on hold after he suffered a hamstring injury in the League Cup final in December but where does he fit into Ange Postecoglou’s plans going forward?

The midfielder had been one of the few standouts in season 2020/21 and appeared to be a player the manager trusted having played in every game up until his injury.

Celtic added further depth to the midfield in the January window with the arrivals of Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and Yosuke Ideguchi.

It was great to once again see Turnbull return to the first team in late March after being out for three months.

With Tom Rogic set to leave the club, it is believed that Celtic are on the lookout for another attacking midfielder option which raises questions about where the former Motherwell midfielder fits in.

With the linkage to Vinicius Souza there is potential that the gaffer may look to play more of a double pivot in the Champions League. With that in mind, there is already serious competition in the midfield area meaning that nobody is a stick on to play other than the captain Callum McGregor.

To be able to cope with the pressures of the Champions League and domestic duty, Ange Postecoglou will need a big squad and there’s no reason why Turnbull can’t once again become a regular.

Another pre-season will do this group of players the world of good and it is exciting to see what awaits the support in the coming season.

  1. Is Tom Rogic about to leave ? Jesus ! Why can’t we persuade him to stay ? We need the Wizard of Oz next season . Come on board . Get it done 🤔
