MOUSSA DEMBELE has tonight completed his move to Lyon and has signed a reported five-year deal with the French club.

Brendan Rodgers spoke last night of keeping the player at Celtic Park for the foreseeable future but was left with little choice after the Frenchman went on a Twitter tirade last night and this morning.

Lyon have paid £20million plus add-ons for the striker who will quadruple his wages in France.

Celtic and Brendan Rodgers released this statement tonight:

“It is vital to make clear that we have never promised any player that he can leave the Club at a particular time. It has never happened. In fact, we have said all along that we did not wish to sell Moussa, given the circumstances within the transfer window and that is why we rejected a significant offer yesterday.

“However, this particular decision to accept this offer has been taken in order to serve the best interests of the first-team squad, my coaching team and the culture and environment we have created in these last two seasons.

“The Board and myself are united and they have been very supportive to me on this issue.

“Our real focus now turns to Sunday’s match and beyond, working with our players here who are committed to doing all they can to ensure another successful season for the Club.

“Finally, I would like to thank Moussa for his contribution in our last two seasons and want to wish him well in his new adventure at Lyon.”

Celtic signed Moussa from Fulham for a nominal 500k fee and have got top dollar for the star after it became clear he wasn’t interested in kicking another ball for Celtic.

The player gave us some very memorable moments including 7 goals against the Ibrox club, each one as devastating as the last.

It will take some time for the wounds to heal after the player acted in a very petulant and unprofessional manner towards the club and more importantly the manager.

When the dust settles he will be remembered fondly. Right now, Celtic move on from this circus with a massive game under 48 hours away.

  1. Dembele displayed a lack of class and absolutely no respect for our club or for the Manager who reclaimed him from obscurity and made him the player he is today
Really though right now Boyata is a more important player for the Club
