GARY HOOPER will NOT be joining Iranian side Esteghlal after all according to SunSport.

The 31-year-old has been a free agent since the summer when Sheffield Wednesday parted ways with the striker. Since then the player has been assessing his options and trained at various clubs.

It looked like the Englishman would take a route his former Celtic strike partner Anthony Stokes took last year when he signed for an Iranian side – only for the move to turn sour less than six months in.

Hooper may have his best days behind him but there’s certainly a space for the former player on these shores at a club willing to give him a chance. The stumbling black appears to be Hooper’s wage demands with clubs being put off bringing him in.

It was briefly touted on social media and some sites including Football Scotland this summer that Hooper could return to Celtic but that was quickly quashed and for good reason.

Things haven’t panned out the way he would’ve liked after he left Celtic for Norwich in a £5.67m deal (TransferMarkt) but there’s still more goals in the frontman somewhere.

  1. I think if he has no injury’s ,and we got him for six month’s he could help our program of games to be played he plays through the middle and that would help eddy, also he can be a box player against defensive sides would like to run the rule over him first just to see where he as yet, I thought danny Walcott would have been a good shout yet he is not impressing me as yet
