Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes former Celtic target Rivaldo Coetzee’s career could be cut very short if the player cannot find a way to get over the constant pain he’s currently in.

The defender was famously set to sign for Celtic with the deal all but confirmed only for something major to snag up during the player’s medical.

Once Celtic saw an issue with the South African they immediately dropped the deal and moved on much to the dismay of the defender.

At the time Rivaldo couldn’t believe it and insisted there was nothing wrong with his medical. Two days later after the Celtic deal fell through Rivaldo moved from Ajax Captetown to Sundowns much to the bemusement of the Celtic fans.

It all started to make sense when the player wasn’t getting any game time and we were told he was recovering from injury.

A year on and the player is yet to kick a ball for the club and his coach sees the player in constant pain.

Speaking to KickOff the Sundowns coach is not confident if the defender will ever play for the club.

“I invested in the 20-year-old, and I see the same investment we put in Keagan [Dolly], Bongani Zungu and Percy Tau. But these things do happen, you can do nothing; we just have to wait. He is kicking a little bit and touching the ball, but then he comes up and says ‘pain … coach, pain’. Sometimes he is okay, but I feel sorry … what a talent hey.”

“We at Sundowns are patient – it is not easy when you spend so much money on him, but that is football,

“We will put him on any flight in the world to get him better.”

  1. Surely a club like Celtic could arrange a testimonial game for this young player. We should never forget the charitable origins of our special club.
