Celtic Women’s boss Fran Alonso has urged his side to continue their winning run which saw them jump into the Champions League spots this weekend.

The 3-0 win against Motherwell on Sunday was the Hoops sixth consecutive win in the league and helped them jump into 2nd place above Rangers. Speaking to the Celtic View, despite the impressive run of form Alonso has challenged his side to continue that going forward.

“I’m delighted. You see how competitive the league is this year, especially in the top spots, and how difficult every game is.

“Every single game is a big challenge, and to manage to win six in a row is not easy, and we have to be proud of the performance of the girls.

“On Sunday, it was a great first half, which is what we really wanted, and then in the second half, we managed just to control the game and rest some legs, which is needed, because we’ve got six games in less than three weeks (after Wednesday’s game against Glasgow City), so it’s a very busy schedule.

“We just focus on the next game and, for us, it’s irrelevant what anyone is saying or what will happen at the end of the season. We’ve just got one job and that’s to try to win on Wednesday against Glasgow City.”

Wednesday night brings another big game for the Women’s side as they prepare to face off against current Champions Glasgow City who currently sits top of the league, five points above Celtic.

They will be looking to add to the impressive run of form but defeating City, closing that gap to just two points. With six games remaining after Wednesday’s fixture, it could send a big message out to their fellow challengers at the top.

The game will be live on BBC Alba, kicking off at 7:40 PM for those who may be interesting in watching the crucial game.
