Celtic fans heading to Dundee for tonight’s Premiership clash at Dens Park are being urged to consider alternative travel options after a fire under the M90 Friarton Bridge caused significant disruption.

The bridge, which spans the River Tay and is a key route for those travelling north, was closed in both directions earlier today after a blaze broke out at a recycling centre beneath the motorway.
The fire, which erupted this morning at the recycling centre near the bridge, has sent thick plumes of smoke into the air, prompting authorities to shut down the Friarton Bridge as a safety precaution.
Emergency services are currently at the scene working to contain the blaze, with local residents advised to stay away from the area due to the hazardous fumes.
The bridge closure is expected to cause significant delays for supporters making the journey from Glasgow to Dundee for Celtic’s third league game in six days. The Hoops take on Tony Docherty’s Dundee side at 8pm, with the Premiership leaders aiming to extend their dominant position at the top of the table.
Fans travelling by road have been urged to plan alternative routes and allow extra time for their journey.
Traffic Scotland issued the following diversion:
“Northbound Exit M90 at Junction 10 (Craigend), continue on M90 to Broxden Roundabout — take 3rd exit A93 to Perth, continue in Glasgow Road, York Place and County Place then enter South Street, then Queens Bridge – turn right after Queens Bridge into A85 Dundee Road continue to Barnhill interchange – take dedicated slip road signposted Dundee. Distance – 8 km? Southound Exit A90 at M90 Junction 11 (Barnhill), continue A85 Dundee Road to junction with Queens Bridge – turn left onto bridge and then left again into Tay Street to traffic light junction with Canal Street – turn right into Canal Street, continue to junction with King Street and turn right, continue to traffic lights at junction with County Place and turn left-continue into County Place, York Place and then Glasgow Road to A93 – continue to Broxden Roundabout – follow signs for Glasgow A9, Inverness A9 or Edinburgh M90. Distance – 8 km?”
Despite the travel chaos, Celtic will be fully focused on the task at hand tonight as Brendan Rodgers’ side look to capitalise on Rangers’ slip-up against Dundee last week. With a 15-point lead at the top of the table, the Hoops will hope to make it three wins in six days, following victories over Ross County and Dundee United.
Supporters are reminded to check live updates from Traffic Scotland and plan accordingly to ensure they don’t miss the action at Dens Park.
*UPDATE AT 13.15 – THE BRIDGE HAS REOPENED.*
