Talks have been going on for months and it has now been confirmed that Celtic’s major shareholder Dermot Desmond now own a 25% stake in Shamrock Rovers in return for a €2m investment.

The investment is said to be going to fund Shamrocks youth system and facilities. While Desmond will have a 25% stake, the Irish Times have reported the billionaire will see himself more as a club trustee than a shareholder.

Desmond is the main man when it comes to big Celtic decisions. The Irishman has picked most of the Celtic managers since 2000 when Martin O’Neill came to the club from Leicester.

The businessman rarely goes to games and leaves the day to day operations to Peter Lawwell. It was both Peter and Dermot who appointed Neil Lennon to the managers role for a second time back in May after the treble treble.

Dermot’s Shamrock investment will unlikely have any impact on Celtic and there’s nothing it to suggest Celtic would benefit from a parent club role.

The official announcement is set for November.
