We don’t hear very much from Dermot Desmond but the majority shareholder took the time to pay tribute to Neil Lennon as he steps down as manager of Celtic.

The season has been an unmitigated disaster both on and off the field and nobody can really argue that change had to happen.

The board and particularly Dermot gave Neil Lennon more time than perhaps many other managers would have got in the same scenario.

Fans grew frustrated with the status quo and watched our season slip away while the powers that be decided to let Neil Lennon continue into 2021.

It was another defeat to Ross County which sealed the manager’s fate but the club have taken until three days after the game to finalise the decision with our former manager.

Speaking on the official Celtic website, Dermot praise Neil Lennon and called him a legend as both a player and a manager. Nobody can argue with that, the Irishman has been a great servant and that will be recognised by the support when the dust settles on this season.

“Neil is a Celtic legend both as a player and manager. He has given so much to the Club, and with his success over the last number of years – including winning a Treble in his own right – he will be very difficult to replace.

“We thank Neil sincerely for all he has done for the club and we wish him every success going forward.”
