We rarely hear from our majority shareholder. As we look for leadership, nobody at the club wants to put their head above the parapet and let us know what’s going on.

The last time Dermot spoke in public about Celtic, and not through a journalist leaking information was in September. Speaking to SunSport, the Irishman lavished praise on Neil Lennon and made a profound and ultimately incredible statement about this Celtic side and the side who made it to Seville.

Four months on, these comments haven’t aged well at all:

If you asked me if the Celtic team today would beat the one that reached Seville, I’d say, ‘Yes’.”

“Lenny was always on our radar.

“He has been a work in progress for us and repaid our belief.

“There were Rangers fans who thought we were handing them the league.

“I have quite a few Rangers friends in business who subscribed to that viewpoint.

“However, I did have a wager with a few of them, so I owe Lenny a night out!

“You underestimate Lenny at your peril. He’s very intelligent, he’s got great awareness and integrity.”

Even at the time, many Celtic fans questioned the wisdom of some of the Celtic shareholder’s comments. A team consisting of Larsson, Sutton, Lamber, Lennon etc would succumb to this side is laughable, if you lived through the O’Neill era.

He might owe a few of his business mates this season after the collapse in which Dermot has played his part. Blind faith in Neil Lennon saw Desmond back the manager when he would have sacked other men in the role.

We’re still waiting to hear from the man himself, will he come out and speak about our season.
